Week Notes #2
Week Notes #2
šļø April 27th - May 3rd.
Another good week. Lots to navigate with the unemployment ā the system is hard to navigate. You have one shot a week to talk to people! It's tough, but inching that process along. Lots of highlights: my spouse, Meg, landed a new job in Madison!!! HUGE for us. Also, we applied for a new living situation, started a plan for a move. We are likely leaving in May, later this month.
Some Highlights
āļø Applied to four jobs. Fingers crossed. I'm starting to feel a rhythm with cover letters and resumes. More importantly I'm starting to locate what I value and want from a job. One bonus of unemployment with some stability: you have time to reflect.
š I had 8 convos this past week with friends, strangers, contemporaries in the working world. All valuable. What I most enjoyed learning about was the Stony Brook Podcast Incubator.
š Discovered a REALLY useful job searching book: Reverse the Search by Madeline Mann. Good reframes such as making yourself a job shopper, not a job seeker. You go find the job you want. This book has given me a lot more confidence going into the job market. It's also a 2025 refresher on resume, applying, and what I actually want from a job. LINK TO BOOK
š¦ We've started the packing process. The house is feeling like opening the drawer and seeing ALL the stuff you put in it. It's the great shake out and reevaluation of what you really need.
šš» Lots of appreciation for friends, family, and time in good weather. My good friend Taylor Brorby's paperback is being released soon!
š Watching
More of the same: Last of Us, Andor, and Four Seasons. The last one was on Netflix. I'd say this show has some fun scenes and dialogue at times; the talent gives it a fighting chance to watch, but there's so much I desired from this. Good writing passes through like a lost Frisbee, but the context didn't work. What a pleasure to take four vacations in a year! I didn't believe the settings, or the roots of these friendships (and relationships). I needed a bit more real dirt; it didn't feel like there was a 20+ history to these relationships. Needed more context for me to really like this one. Mostly a pass.
